A clear reflection of steel, such as lightning; is whitening the space. Quick and sudden a bright glow illuminates the scope of the event and builds expressive acts. A brilliant metallic blaze, loudly and contorts, for a moment, spreads and propagates while risking settling.

Frenetic and fearless processing in the forge of Daniele Dell’Angelo Custode. To observe the fast pace, no one would imagine a conscious process of transformation of the ‘cold metal’, but rather there is a clear refined procedure, the ‘deployment’ of forces and tools capable of processing “… one of the best communication tools that reality offers. Ductile and malleable certainly suitable for composing languages with which to compare the time, “says the artist.

Thin directional profiles like drawn rigid signs, which structure ways of escape, they ‘support’ volumes and attach meanings. A creative, likewise dynamic criterion for the distribution of amounts of matter, it becomes essential for the development of formal composition. “The iron convinces … but not quite. The rules are and will remain his” so says the author.

Daniele Dell’Angelo Custode meticulously composes and doses forms, researches approaches, re-settles weights, thicknesses and distances. Urges the materials, causing friction, physical and visual. Displaces expansions, contractions, shock, and lacerations, distributing it on irregular levels. Then burns, breaks, cuts and hammering, as sequences of continuous clashes in progress and, in the re-molding of its surfaces, varies the range of shades and colors of the subject worked.

He passes the ‘brush/torch’ quickly the flames of the blow torch on the twisted metal surfaces. A pause, then another. It bakes the solid layer and the substance will react instinctively. Was kindled bright red, and after, the glow fades dying. The magmatic fluid ‘answers’ to the action by thinning, with accelerated oxidation and cool blackening. The sparkling sizzle of the welding, alternating with targeted and thunderous hammer blows.

A Work is born.

This is the patient building of ‘meaning’; every blow, lists functions and concepts to come.

Shaping the iron for Daniele Dell’Angelo Custode is like forging density.

So here begins the fusion of random mat, ever adaptable and never coincides. The artist superimposes rough surfaces where rust and oxidation confirm the reality of that time evolving and becoming texture. Then, still material dramas, lacerations, abrasions and deforming Implosions, twists and bends, corrugated surfaces treated as floors, ready to put on elaborate compromises bright and reverberant unexpected tensions at the limit, both at the breaking point of the yield and by visual perception.

Firstly, art can recognise and absorb the world, according to Daniel Dell’Angelo Custode, his tragic reality … inferior material.

To which appear a vibrant series of cuts and gashes ‘informal’ inflicted, or progressive oxidation sequences of the second grain, almost marble. Transcribes dense and labyrinthine continuing signs, both of rusty plates on both twisted metal and of thin tubes. Scratches such as text, perhaps inspired by messages found, belonging to ancient civilisations (or the next!?). Engravings that remain as grooves on the surface, while others pass over, detaching metal fragments, as if they were splinters of ‘time’, the verses of lullabies, tattooed on the body of the earth, never recovered.

The origins of the interesting and complex way/artistic method, in approaching the subject, have at the base a search and are translatable by commingling graphic or subjects of a Mathieu, Burri or a Capogrossi, but also of Wols, Consagra, Hartung and the art of informal, inclusive and spatially crossed by the avant-garde. The work of Daniel Dell’Angelo Custode follows an original way of composition and design, is able to interpret that ‘consumption of raw material’, which corrode the elements, and translate it into a number of variants, seeking at the same time renewed, and educated essential expression.

Premesso- che senza dubbio L’artista, Daniele Dell’Angelo Custode, è un conoscitore della materia prima, oggetto delle sue opere, nonchè delle idonee attrezzature che lui usa per esprimere, nella realtà, le forme prefissate nel suo intimo- a mio parere contribuisce anche, all’ottenimento del prodotto finale, il fattore naturale spontaneo che è nel suo carattere. Cioè LUI ha ricercato e voluto, con insistenza interiore, esprimere queste forme originali che, nell’osservarle, senza dubbio individuano e riconducono al suo nome anche senza leggerlo in anteprima. Per cui le sue opere derivano anche dal fatto che Daniele, nell’ambito di quest’arte in cui si colloca la sua ispirazione ed espressione, è anche una forza spontanea della natura tipica di ogni Artista, della ns. terra, che esprime con passione e ricerca la propria arte.
